There is much to think about before your move, even more so if you have a child in preschool. Here are our top tips:

  • Can your child stay in their current preschool?

If you move within the municipality, your child can probably stay in their current preschool, at least for a while. It may be worth double-checking this with the preschool or municipality before looking for other options.

Follow these steps if your child needs to change preschool:

  • Find preschools in your new area

Start by visiting your municipality's website (see below). There you will find information about different preschools, including reviews from parents and children.

  • Do your research

Visit the preschools you are most interested in and feel the atmosphere. Ask to speak with the director and read the governing document or curriculum to ensure that the preschool can meet your expectations. You can also ask to talk to a parent of a child attending the preschool.

  • Apply as soon as possible

From the age of 1, your child is guaranteed a preschool placement within 3 months (applies to all preschools in your municipality's standard queue). It is usually easiest to get a placement when the autumn term starts.

  • Cancel current preschool placement

We recommend that you wait to cancel your child's current preschool placement until you have been granted a new one. You cancel the placement with your municipality (see below) via e-service or by downloading and submitting a form. The notice period is usually 1–2 months, and you need to pay the preschool fee throughout this period.
