Have you just moved in and completely forgotten to sign an electricity contract? Or have you perhaps discovered that your current agreement is not the best for you? Regardless of the reason why you want to sign a new electricity contract, there are several things you should consider. We help you clear up all the question marks.

Electricity trading agreement or electricity network agreement?

Electricity contracts usually refer to "electricity sales contracts", i.e. your ongoing electricity consumption. When moving to a new home, you also need to sign an electricity network agreement so that you can get power in your lights and heat in your elements. You sign this at the same time as the electricity trade agreement.

Regardless of whether you need help signing an electricity trade agreement or electricity network agreement, or perhaps both, we will help you. You don't need to contact the supplier yourself - we do it for you.

Things to consider when signing an electricity contract

Are you going to sign a new contract? Then there are some things you need to think about. We've collected them for you below.

1. Check the binding period and notice period in your current electricity contract

There is often a so-called binding period in an electricity contract. This means that you are tied to the service for a certain fixed period. If you choose to cancel your contract before the commitment period has expired, there is a risk that your electricity company will demand that you pay for the entire commitment period. Therefore, we do not recommend switching before your existing agreement has expired.

2. Compare different electricity companies before signing a new electricity contract

Which factors are most important to you regarding the electricity supplier? Price is usually a deciding factor for many. It is also wise to look at customer reviews and the availability of customer service.

One tip is to go to the Energy Market Agency, which has compiled complaint information from various electricity suppliers. It can hopefully give you an overview of which companies can be cost-effective and quality-assured. However, this can be difficult and take a lot of time.

Would you rather spend your time doing something else than comparing electricity contracts and sitting in long phone queues? We at Flyttsmart help you choose between different electricity trading agreements. We quickly and easily compare the prices for 5 of the largest and best electricity companies. Based on your address, we come up with the best options for you.

3. Cancel your current electricity contract

Have you already canceled your current electricity contract? Then you can skip to the next point.

Sometimes, however, there are long phone lines and it can take some time to cancel your existing agreement. Therefore, we also want to help you cancel your existing contract. When you sign a new agreement at Flyttsmart, you can also terminate your current one. You simply tick the box "cancel current electricity contract" and specify which date the electricity should be turned off - then we will take care of the rest. Convenient, right?

4. Review your electricity consumption and choose an electricity contract based on your accommodation

Do you live in an apartment or perhaps in a house? If you live in an apartment, your electricity consumption is likely to be longer than if you live in a house/villa. What distinguishes a fixed electricity contract from a variable one is that the variable price is affected by developments in the electricity market. A fixed electricity contract will not be affected by market price fluctuations during the binding period.

At Flyttsmart, we guide you in your choice of electricity contract based on your particular accommodation. We help you to come up with your best options.
